Searching for the best driving school in Melbourne? With dozens of options across the city, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. This guide breaks down exactly what separates a genuinely great Melbourne driving school from an average one — and why Freshers consistently comes out on top.
What Makes the Best Driving School in Melbourne?
Not all driving schools are equal. The best driving school in Melbourne should have five non-negotiable qualities:
- VicRoads accreditation — every instructor must hold current VicRoads driving instructor accreditation. Freshers instructors are all fully accredited.
- Proven pass rate — the VicRoads state average is 55–65%. The best schools are well above that. Freshers maintains a 98% first-attempt pass rate.
- Genuine Google reviews — a 5.0 rating from 146+ verified Google reviews. Freshers holds this rating consistently.
- Transparent pricing — no hidden fees. Lessons from $68 per hour.

Best Driving School Melbourne CBD Area
Freshers is based in Carlton — perfectly positioned to serve Melbourne CBD, Fitzroy, Richmond, Parkville, Brunswick and the entire inner city. Our Melbourne CBD driving lessons cover the specific challenges of city driving: tram tracks, hook turns, clearways and complex intersections. Most Melbourne CBD learners sit their VicRoads test at the Carlton VicRoads centre (459 Lygon Street) — our instructors know that test route inside out.

How to Choose the Best Driving School in Melbourne
Ask these five questions before booking: Is every instructor VicRoads accredited? What is the actual first-attempt pass rate (not an estimate)? Are there genuine Google reviews you can read? Are prices fully transparent on the website? Freshers answers yes to all five.
